Town and Village Renewal Scheme 2020

I welcome today’s announcement by Minister Heather Humphreys that many towns such as Portarlington, Athy, Kildare Town, Monasterevin and Lowtown will benefit from the Town and Village Renewal Scheme 2020.

‪These projects will really benefit the local communities and the economy in our constituency of Kildare South – more funding of this type desperately needed.

Kildare Town – Removal of existing car-parking spaces in the Market Square to facilitate social distancing, recreational use by the community and, outdoor eating and queueing of patrons for businesses on the square.

Portarlington – Modification and enhancement of the Public Realm to comply with social distancing and encourage increased footfall in the Public Realm.

Offaly Countywide Initiative Offaly Shopfront Scheme – Shopfront Enhancement Grant Scheme for businesses to improve the shopfront facades.

Countywide Initiative Offaly Covid Capacity Scheme – Supports for businesses in Offaly to assist with increasing capacity for customers and queueing by providing weather proofing for outdoor areas, outdoor furniture and utilising unused space.

Athy – Support for the School Street pilot scheme in Athy.

Monasterevin – Support for the School Street pilot scheme in Monasterevin.

Lowtown – Support the establishment of a ‘Cycle Café’ to promote cycling and provide cyclists and cycling groups with a ‘pit stop’.
