Wed, 29 July 2020 | Perjury and Related Offences Bill [Seanad] 2018: Motion [Private Members]

In the Dáil, I spoke in relation to the Perjury and Related Offences Bill 2018, which I am very much in favour of.

This Bill was introduced two years ago and steered through the Seanad by former Senator Pádraig Ó Céidigh and aims to make it easier to prosecute those who knowingly give false evidence.

This Bill deals with cases of people exaggerating their personal injury claims, however it is much wider than just insurance. People who committed burglaries, assaults or sexual assaults have walked free because they could find someone who created a spurious alibi for them. It also focuses on white collar crime, family law cases and tribunes of enquiry.
