Questions and Answers on the recent cyberattack and it’s impact on the Health System

In the Dáil this week, I spoke in relation to the recent cyber-attack on the HSE and the Department of Health.
I agree with the views of retired Colonel Dorcha Lee in the Irish Times this morning when he stated that this cyber-attack is of such scale, such magnitude and such consequences that it really should be categorised as cyber terrorism rather than cybercrime.
I commend the actions of our cyber professionals in the country at the moment. They’ve been working around the clock to fix this problem. They’re highly motivated, highly qualified and patriotic people who are working tirelessly.
I am also thinking of the clinical staff in the HSE who once again are scrambling to try to deal with this incident and the patients whose appointments have been postponed or treatments cancelled.
