Only One Jadotville Veteran Recommended for Medal

The Report prepared by the Independent Review Group on Jadotville has been published and is now available here.

The independent review group which was set up last year has decided that just one veteran who fought with the UN in the Congo 60 years ago is to be commended for a military medal.

The group have decided that only Colonel Pat Quinlan, the commanding officer of A Company, 35th Batallion should receive the Distinguished Service Medal (DSM).

Commenting on the report published today, Independent TD and former Army Ranger, Dr. Cathal Berry stated, “I am very disappointed to read the recommendations of the Jadotville report which was just published at midday today. Devastated for the soldiers and families involved, and for all those who campaigned so fiercely over the years. I’ll be listening carefully to the Minister’s statement in the Seanad at 7:45pm this evening.”
