When Cathal met Christy!

Kildare South TD  Cathal Berry met with members of the Kildare Yarn Bombers group at the Liffey Linear Park in Newbridge this week to view their work in the park and lend his support. The park has been decorated by the group as part of the June Fest activities in the town. But it wasn’t only the yarn bombers he met as he also came face to face with Christy Moore, one of the yarn bombers’ creations.

The Kildare Yarn Bombers are a group of volunteers who each June, yarn bomb the Linear Park in Newbridge. Over 1000 knitters and crocheters have contributed to date making it the largest woolly community arts project in Ireland.

They are currently aiming to raise funds for Alzheimer Society Kildare Branch. There are 64,000 people with dementia in Ireland and the number of people with the condition will more than double in the next 25 years to over 150,000 by 2045.

This year their display will be installed in memory of the yarn bombers that they have lost to COVID, many of whom had Alzheimer’s disease.

Their fundraiser can be assessed through this link.
