The Commission on the Defence Forces

I raised the following points with Chair Aidan O’Driscoll –

The need for overtime to be paid to military personnel for rostered duties

Paying at least the national minimum wage to serving personnel of the Defence Forces

The need for outstanding previously agreed pay awards to be paid such as the Tech pay 2-6, the Army Ranger Wing allowance and Specialised Instructors Allowances

The independent pay review body and when it’s expected to be established

The Commission is really about capability development. The most important element of capability is people. A weapon is only as good as the man or woman holding it and a ship is only as good as it’s crew. Therefore, we must resolve the issues affecting serving members of the Defence Forces.
