I welcome the news this week that the Patrician Secondary School, Newbridge and Cross and Passion College, Kilcullen school building extension projects have been given the go ahead to complete the remaining work on the preparation of tender documents.
The Department of Education has issued authorisation to complete the remaining work on the preparation of tender documents required for public procurement of building contractors for these two schools for the end of the year.
I have raised the shortage of secondary school places in Kildare South on numerous occasions with the Minister. So I am glad to see that both schools will benefit from building expansion projects to bring their capacity to 1,000 pupils. Along with the new build for the Curragh Community College, this will hopefully help to alleviate some of the pressure currently experienced by so many students in Kildare waiting on secondary school places.
My colleagues and I will continue to advocate for more investment in school buildings across the constituency which is so desperately needed.
I want to congratulate the principals, staff, students and boards of management in both the Patrician Secondary School and Cross and Passion College on this great news for their school communities.
